WHO, WHAT, WHY, & HOW?

Who is responsible for this page?

  • This page was created and is maintained by Zane Riester. The site opened in June of 1998.  The site was redesigned in June of 2003.

How did it develop?

  • Following my graduation from University I was awarded a Watson Fellowship to examine the similarities between 19th century Victorian railroad stations and 17th century Baroque churches in France, Italy, and the United Kingdom.  Already fascinated with these vast cathedrals of the Industrial Revolution, I soon became obsessed.  From the project's inception I wanted to share my observations and discoveries with others. Stations are buildings for the masses and the internet is the people's medium.  Since the site's inception it has become one of the most popular railroad station sites on the internet and won numerous awards.

Can I add material?

  • Yes! Contributions are very welcome.  If you have pictures, postcards, articles, books, links, art or anything else and would like to see them included on this site, please contact me at riesterz@gmail.com.

How did you create the site?

  • This site was created by myself using Front Page and personal html skills. Pictures and animations were made with Photoshop 7.

How can I contact you?

  • You may contact me via email at riesterz@gmail.com All questions will be answered within a week.

Do you have any other sites?

  • Funny you should ask, but yes I do.  I am not only obsessed with railroad stations and trains, I also love all things automotive.  Ironic considering that the popularity of the car has been one of the most prominent factors in the destruction and demise of many great stations, but I have never been able to shake my love of motorcars.  For more please visit www.rpmotoring.com.

What is next?

  • The site will hopefully continue to grow and incorporate the United States and the rest of the world.  Your support is always need.  Make a donation to ensure that more stations from around the world can be shared on this site.  All donations go to help maintaining the Railroad Station Home Page and for the collection of more material and pictures.
